How to use Random Team Generator
Make balanced random teams for free in your browser by pasting names, one per line. Choose a number of teams or a maximum team size, then copy the groups or re-shuffle them without retyping your list.
Blank lines are ignored and surrounding spaces are trimmed. Repeated names remain separate entries, so add a surname or other identifier when two people share a name. Enter a whole number from one to the number of entries, then click Generate teams.
Number of teams creates exactly that many nonempty groups. Maximum team size calculates the number of groups needed, then balances their sizes. For example, ten names with a maximum size of four produce three teams of four, three, and three people. The maximum is a ceiling rather than a request to fill each team before starting the next.
Click Re-shuffle teams to draw again from the same list. A fresh shuffle can produce the same arrangement by chance. Copy teams copies labeled groups as plain text; if clipboard permission is unavailable, select the displayed names and copy them manually. Editing the names or split settings clears the previous result.

Frequently Asked Questions
How are the teams randomized?
The generator shuffles entries using Fisher–Yates and secureRandomInt, which draws through Web Crypto. It then deals the shuffled entries across the chosen number of teams.
Will the teams be exactly equal?
They are equal when the number of entries divides evenly by the number of teams. Otherwise their sizes differ by at most one, and no entry is dropped.
Can I balance by skill or keep friends apart?
There are no skill ratings, captains, or keep-apart rules in this tool. Review the random groups yourself if your activity needs those constraints.
Are duplicate names removed?
No, each nonblank line is a separate entry, including repeated names. Give people distinct labels before generating if you need to tell them apart.
Are my teams saved?
The team component keeps names and results in page memory only. Copy the result before reloading or leaving the page.
